My name is Luiza. When I was seven years old, my dad helped me create my first email address. I remember logging into MSN Messenger and chatting with my neighbor. Even though we could see each other typing on our desktop computers through the window, it felt exciting and futuristic to communicate online, sending emoticons and winks back and forth. I also loved drawing on Paint, going on Flash game websites full of viruses, and reading comics online. The internet was very different back then. At this point, I’ve been an internet user for most of my life, and it has helped shape a lot of my personality and interests. As a teenager I discovered so much music, movies, and different artists by browsing the web, reading blogs, and spending time in chatrooms. Even now, I still find it amazing how much information and media we can access so easily, things that would have been much harder to learn about without the internet. Having these experiences on the internet from such a young age makes me see it as a creative and exploratory space. I’m excited to learn more about creating the web and incorporating it into my graphic design and artistic practices, rather than only consuming it.
