Welcome to Art 645!

Art 645 is the art department's introductory course for the web design practice. It is the first in a series of web design courses that include Art 645, Art 646, and Art 647. In this course you will learn how web sites are designed, built, and published. You will learn how to design a website from scratch, apply your creativity, and create something unique on the Internet. Many students publish their own website based on what they learn in this course, before the course concludes. In this course, we learn how to design and build websites using open-source tools, software, and methods. We learn to code by hand. We learn to use free versions of expensive software. Also, this course is being provided his semester in an synchronous format. That means we run live meetings online that you can attend or watch as a video. The course format offers an open, flexible schedule of course materials, assignments, and deadlines. This means you have the ability to find a coursework pace that is right for your work/life/study situation.
